Dr. Raffaello D’Andrea from ETH Zurich has developed a flying robot for constructing buildings. This robot is able to locate, carry and drop the blocks that forms the structure to be built.
The robot is a quadricopter, which means that it has four propellers to travel. The position control of the robot is achieved through a motion capture system with a group of cameras. This system checks the position of the robot, modifies its trajectory and indicates the robot where to drop the block that is carrying.A demonstration was made with four of these robots, which built a 1:100 scale model of a building with polystyrene bricks.
